bolster the home-improvement market and keep remodelers\u2019 sentiments positive, although sentiment \u201cis not quite as positive\u201d as it was the previous quarter, \u201cas some remodelers are reporting that uncertainty about tariffs and the direction of the economy are making customers hesitant to spend on larger projects,\u201d according to a new report from the National Association of Homebuilders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A five-point decline in the NAHB\u2019s latest Remodeling Market Index (RMI) \u201clikely reflects consumer uncertainty, fueled by rising costs and tariff concerns,\u201d said NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz <strong>(see related graph above)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough almost all the data for the first quarter RMI were collected before the release of specific reciprocal tariffs, the debate and uncertainty over tariffs has had an effect on consumer confidence,\u201d Dietz observed.<br><br>Remodelers responding to the latest RMI survey reported that their suppliers have already increased prices by an average of 6.9% since January due to the anticipated effect of tariffs, the Washington, DC-based NAHB
