{"id":162911,"date":"2021-06-11T00:46:35","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T05:46:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging3.kitchenbathdesign.com\/?p=162911"},"modified":"2022-07-20T14:21:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T19:21:48","slug":"firm-caters-to-coastal-clients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kitchenbathdesign.com\/firm-caters-to-coastal-clients\/","title":{"rendered":"Firm Caters to Coastal Clients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Warwick, RI \u2014 <\/b><\/span>\u201cI always say I have sawdust in the blood,\u201d quips Tanya Donahue, owner and principal of RIKB Design Build in Warwick, RI. \u201cMy dad was a general contractor, and growing up, I loved being on the job sites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Donahue\u2019s love of the job site atmosphere continued into her adulthood. \u201cMy husband and I started a custom cabinet shop in 1989, and after we had our two children I went back to the workforce full time in a local lumber yard in the <\/span><span class=\"s3\">kitchen and bath department, then moved on to a large new construction company until 2008. This <\/span><span class=\"s2\">led me to the perfect blend of what I love at RIKB <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Design Build \u2013 kitchens, baths, building cool proj<\/span>ects and seeing them through to the very end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">After putting in her time as an employee of RIKB, Donahue became a partner, and eventually fully bought out the founder in 2016. Since the homeowners love to entertain, the RIKB team created a custom built-in hutch to allow for a few extra inches of seating space.-\u00a9[TEN] Real Estate Photographers. www.imageten.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>Coastal classics<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Due to the location of RIKB in southern New England, a large portion of the firm\u2019s business comes from well-established clients, many of whom own multiple properties. \u201cOur design specialties are full service design-build projects that usually have a kitchen or bath included in the scope of work,\u201d Donahue explains. \u201cThese projects can also include a small addition as part of the renovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Donahue notes that many of her clients own vacation homes in the area, \u201cso we do see a lot of clients transforming their coastal vacation homes into their permanent residence.\u201d She adds that the firm\u2019s \u201cprimary clientele is the Boomer looking to either modify their existing forever home or remodel a downsized or second home, and younger clients that appreciate the design-build approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s4\">Because of the age and life stage of many of the firm\u2019s clients, Donahue says, \u201cmulti-generational living and Aging in Place [have] been a focus for us for many years.\u201d She notes that, over the past year, due to COVID-19 and changing home situations, \u201cwe are certainly seeing a huge demand for that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_162913\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162913\" class=\"size-full wp-image-162913 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sola-images.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/09155730\/Image-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-162913\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-162913 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/sola-images.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/09155730\/Image-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sola-images.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/09155730\/Image-3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/sola-images.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/09155730\/Image-3-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/noscript> This bathroom originally had quite a unique design, including green carpet, wallpaper and a double-sided vanity. The RIKB team was able to improve the space with updated finishes, a refreshed double-sided vanity and colorful tiles throughout.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>Future-facing approachability<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prior to the pandemic, RIKB was already embracing virtual tools in order to foster good communication with clients, including \u201ccloud storage for all projects and client portals, iPads in the field, digital specifications and reviews, so the switch over to 100 percent virtual workflow was fairly seamless for us.\u201d Tech solutions for COVID-era communication include an app that enables employees to have a separate phone number to text clients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In order to maintain client connections through the pandemic, RIKB has been using Zoom to its fullest capabilities, in particular. \u201cPrior to last year, we would have educational workshops in our Design Center, and our first virtual workshop was ready to go one week after the shutdown,\u201d Donahue explains. \u201cThey have been a huge success and the content varies from trends, successful planning of projects, everything a client would need to know to start them on their remodeling journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s4\">This policy of embracing technological solutions to social distancing has enabled RIKB to maintain its \u201dprofessional yet approachable\u201d character. \u201cWe strive to provide exceptional customer service, materials and installation,\u201d says Donahue. \u201cWe are super proud of our team and the care they give to each and every client. I think clients feel our culture of caring, compassion and camaraderie and know they can trust us in their homes.
